What is ODOP?

What is One Day One Piece?

It’s my journey to read one chapter of One Piece almost every day for two years until I’m caught up with the most current serialization in Japan, sometime around August 2011.

Why am I doing this?  Well, when I began ODOP I had already read/watched the story up to the anime’s episode 167, but I did it so inconsistently that I felt I was missing something of the whole experience, so I wanted to start over and re-read it all from the beginning.  That and I’m just not a fan of rushing or marathoning stories, since I tend to forget details when I do that.

But why a blog?  Basically, I don’t want to do this alone.  I assume most people who follow One Piece online are already reading the latest chapters, so I can’t just jump into forums to talk about the series.  Instead, I make a new blog post every day and write my reactions to that day’s chapter, and anyone interested can comment on my posts as I go along.  It’s good for me, and good for you since you can vicariously re-experience the best parts of the series through me!

Now for the slightly overzealous part…  During some weeks in Japan, a new One Piece chapter was not published.  Since I am going through OP at the rate of one week per one day, I will not be reading a new chapter on those days that represent weeks during which a new chapter was not published in Japan.  See?  I said it’s overzealous, but I’m doing it to keep continuity for when (I eventually start watching the anime).

So with that, enjoy One Day One Piece! A new post every day at 7 PM EDT!
